Overview
The Antonov An-12 is a Soviet military and civilian freighter powered by four turboprops, fitted with a rear loading ramp. It offers a payload of 20 t and a range of 5,700 km.
Designed in the USSR in the late 1950s, the An-12 was produced in several thousand units and remains operated today by cargo operators in Russia, the CIS and Africa.
Its rear ramp and reinforced landing gear allow it to operate from rough, unpaved airstrips where few other aircraft of this size can land.
The An-12 is particularly suited to heavy and bulky freight bound for hard-to-reach areas, as well as humanitarian and industrial operations in remote terrain.
